Sudan Negotiators Hopeful of Agreement on New Transitional Council

Sudan Negotiators Hopeful of Agreement on New Transitional Council. A negotiator on behalf of the Sudanese opposition has returned optimistically from discussions with the transitional military council, which is now ruling.   He thinks he can make a deal about the formation of a new government that will guide the country through the transition period. "We have taken positive steps today, and we expect to reach an agreement that is satisfactory for all parties," said Ayman Nimir, one of the leaders of the umbrella citizen declaration of freedom and change.   "We assume that the military council will give us a definitive answer in the short term." The army command recently deposed the autocratic president Omar al-Bashir, who had been in power in Sudan for 30 years.

Egyptian President Al-Sisi can Remain in Power Until 2030

Egyptian President Al-Sisi can Remain in Power Until 2030. It has not become a surprise. After all, the result of the three-day referendum in Egypt was almost guaranteed. So it has become a massive "yes". A "yes" for a review of the Egyptian constitution.   The main consequence is that President al-Sisi, who has been in power since 2014, may remain President of his country until 2030. Can President al-Sisi stay on until 2030?" That was the crucial question that the referendum was about. Only it wasn't like that on the ballot papers. President al-Sisi disguised his wish and then let his people vote on a constitutional amendment. According to that change, the term of office of a president is extended from four to six years. And the president can be re-elected more than twice. Accor...

Hoekstra Bill Rejects Objections

Hoekstra bill rejects objections about the property register.Minister Wopke Hoekstra (Finance) has submitted a bill for a property register to the Chamber of Commerce (KvK) with the House of Representatives. It should map out the 'ultimate beneficial owner' (UBO) of companies and foundations. The offer for the UBO register is intended to combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism. Registration is necessary for persons with an interest of at least 25 percent. It is controversial because the ultimate stakeholders believe that the privacy of the register is being violated. Charities are also entered in the register. Earlier it was informed that this would stop volunteer charities because they would be wrongly characterised as beneficiaries.

May Refuses To Postpone Brexit For Longer Than 30 June

May refuses to postpone Brexit for longer than 30 June. British Prime Minister Theresa May is not planning to postpone Brexit beyond June 30, the new deadline she proposed to the European Council on Wednesday.   That is what the British Prime Minister stated on Wednesday evening in a speech in which she placed the blame for the problematic Brexit process on the British House of Commons in particular. According to the British Prime Minister, British parliamentarians mainly know what they do not want, but do not let them know what they do want. The Brexit process is in yet another stalemate, one and a half week before the official Brexit date: 30 March, midnight (Dutch time). Without approval of the resignation agreement in the British parliament, the UK warns to "crash" ...

Dozens of scouts had accused the priest in a question of sexual abuse in the 1980s and 1990s. Barbarin was not yet an archbishop at the time and was not informed of the case by one of the victims until 2014, but after being notified, Barbarin waited another year before making the complaints public. He said he was convinced that the priest had repented. That cond...
