Trump Claims Pennsylvania Election Victory By the Judge

President Donald Trump's campaign team on Wednesday demanded that Trump be declared the winner in the state of Pennsylvania.   Team Trump believes that the state parliament, where Republicans hold the majority, should select the electors to elect the eventual president. In the documents submitted, the Trump campaign asks the federal judge to declare election results in Pennsylvania "imperfect" and order the state parliament to select electors. The request is part of a series of adjustments by the Trump campaign to the Pennsylvania lawsuit. Trump's Democratic challenger Joe Biden won the election with an expected number of 306 electors, against Trump's 232. Whoever has 270 or more electors is the winner. If Trump manages to turn the outcome in Pennsylvania (20 electors) in his fa...

Amnesty: Still Too Few Reforms Against Exploitation Qatar

Qatar, the host of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, is still not implementing enough reforms to improve the conditions of foreign guest workers, Amnesty International said.   The human rights organization said in a report Wednesday, two years before the kick-off of the World Cup, that thousands of workers are still at the mercy of unscrupulous employers, whose abuse remains unpunished. Conditions for labour migrants in the oil state have improved in recent years. Amnesty says it welcomes the reforms of the labour market but points out that implementation can be improved. "Then many problematic aspects would be removed," said Regina Spöttl, Amnesty's Gulf state expert. After a sustained deluge of international criticism, Qatar decided to implement reforms to improve the situation of migrant...

Biden Receives Unofficial Briefing From Security Experts

The upcoming US president Joe Biden will be updated by security experts in his hometown of Wilmington on Tuesday.   This is not an official briefing on national security, as the responsible government agency GSA has not yet designated the Democrat as the winner of the election. Biden must prepare for the presidency and is forced to seek advice from experts who have worked for the administration of Barack Obama, the predecessor of current President Donald Trump. According to an initiate, the Democrat is also supported by people who have left the government in recent years. The transfer of power is difficult because President Trump refuses to admit defeat. American media have concluded that the victory can no longer escape Biden and many foreign leaders have already congratulated t...

Asian Stock Markets Rise After Major Free Trade Pact

The Asian stock markets showed substantial gains on Monday. Investors responded positively to the trade deal that China and fourteen other countries in Asia and the Pacific closed on Sunday.   The pact aims to gradually lower trade tariffs in the region and creates a free trade zone between, among others, China, Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand. The main index in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225, ended 2.1 percent higher at 25,906.93 points. The sizeable Japanese export companies, in particular, were in demand after the trade deal in the region, which, according to analysts, forms the largest trading bloc in the world. In addition, it turned out that the Japanese economy grew by 5 percent in the third quarter compared to the previous quarter. It was the first growth in four quar...

Russia Has Reported Nearly 22,000 New Corona Infections

Russia has reported nearly 22,000 new corona infections, the most massive daily increase since the start of the pandemic.   Catering establishments in the capital Moscow will be faced with stricter measures in the coming weeks to prevent further spread of the virus. Nightclubs, restaurants and cafes are no longer allowed to serve customers between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. until mid-January. Russia, with approximately 145 million inhabitants, is one of the countries worldwide that reported the most infections. Only in the US, India, Brazil and France have more people been diagnosed with the virus. In some areas outside Moscow, hospitals are struggling with the influx of corona patients, according to Russian media. Earlier this year, Moscow was subject to a strict lockdown. The mayor of...

China Condemns Massive Departure From Hong Kong Opposition

China has condemned the decision of the Hong Kong opposition to leave parliament en masse. "We want to warn these opposition members.   They are making a mistake if they want to use this to encourage radical resistance and then ask foreign forces for help to bring Hong Kong back into chaos," said the Hong Kong office representing the Chinese government. Prodemocratic opposition members in Hong Kong announced this week that they are giving up their parliamentary seats. They are protesting against the decision to take away their seats from four colleagues. Beijing had empowered the Hong Kong authorities to impeach parliamentarians who support independence or who are 'dangerous to the state' without judicial intervention. The opposition took action in the parliament of the metropoli...

Second Corona Wave in Belgium Seems to Be Over

The decline in the number of new coronavirus infections in Belgium continues. The number of hospital admissions and admissions to intensive care units also continues to decline.   "We see the declines in all age groups," said virologist Steven Van Gucht at a crisis centre press conference. According to Van Gucht, it seems that "the efforts of everyone" avoid the worst conceivable scenario in the healthcare sector. He hopes that the number of patients on ICs will no longer increase, but the situation in hospitals is still "challenging". Currently, 7058 people are in hospital, 1470 of whom are in ICs. For the first time since September, the number of corona patients required to be admitted to intensive care continued to decrease slightly daily averaged over a week. For the first ti...

Russian Soldiers on Their Way to Nagorno-Karabakh

Russia has sent troops to the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region to monitor compliance with a new truce. The Russian Ministry of Defense reports that the first soldiers have already taken off in Il-76 transport aircraft.   Russia, which has close links with Armenia, says some 1,960 men and 90 armoured vehicles are deployed in the region. There has been heavy fighting there for weeks. The belligerents have confirmed they have approved a deal to end hostilities. Fighting between Armenia and Azerbaijan for the Nagorno-Karabakh enclave flared up in late September. The area is ruled by Armenian separatists but is part of Azerbaijan according to the international community. There were at least 1,300 deaths in recent weeks, and possibly many more. Azerbaijan achieved several military succe...

Trump Happy With the News About Corona Vaccine Effectiveness

President Donald Trump has hailed the report that the US pharmaceutical company Pfizer's corona vaccine is 90 percent effective in preventing infection as "big news."   According to him, a vaccine is coming soon. He has previously said several times that a vaccine would become available this year. Trump also referred on Twitter to upward stock market prices. The number of corona infections and deaths in the US continues to increase. According to some observers, the president has lost the election partly because his government has responded inadequately to the corona pandemic. Winner Joe Biden will present a task force on Monday with experts to create a plan to combat the outbreak.

Republicans Launch Legal Offensive Over Nevada Vote

The United States Department of Justice is investigating allegations by President Donald Trump's campaign team about alleged voting fraud in the western state of Nevada.   Lawyers for the presidential campaign team said it would be postal votes from voters who no longer reside in the state. A Justice Department official said the ministry would investigate the allegations. It is the first sign that Trump's Attorney General William Barr may be interfering with the election process. The Democrats firmly deny that there is voter fraud in the state of Nevada (6 electors), where their captain Joe Biden has a lead of about 11,000 votes (0.9 percent) over President Trump in Friday morning's standings. Following the Trump campaign, two Republican parliamentary candidates have also decided...
