Number of Hospital Admissions in Belgium Towards 3000

Corona rates in Belgium continue to rise across the country. Nearly 3,000 Covid-19 patients have been admitted to Belgian hospitals, virologist Steven Van Gucht said during a press conference of the health authorities.   There may be first signs that the spread of the virus is slowing down. The number of new infections doubles every nine days, compared to every seven days last week, according to Van Gucht. There were 2,969 people in the hospital on Tuesday. According to the latest figures, an average of 295 people was admitted each day between October 14 and 20, an increase of 94 percent from the previous week. On average, 8975, new corona cases were added daily. By the way, the laboratories stopped testing people who have no symptoms on Tuesday due to under capacity. The provinc...

Moscow is Soon Starting Massive Corona Vaccinations

Massive vaccinations against the coronavirus will start in the coming months in the Russian capital Moscow. That starts between December and January, Mayor Sergej Sobjanin wrote on his blog on Monday.   The first significant deliveries of the first Russian vaccine will arrive next month. "That will be the ultimate victory over the pandemic," said Sobjanin. The Russian vaccine called 'Sputnik-V' had already been released in August. There was international criticism for approval before the completion of significant tests. Large-scale phase III studies are currently underway. A second vaccine developed in Russia has now also been released. In the largest country in the world in terms of surface area, the number of new infections has been rising rapidly for weeks. According to officia...

More Than 8 Million Corona Infections Detected in the US

The number of corona infections diagnosed in the United States is over 8 million. Authorities registered one million new corona cases in less than a month, Reuters news agency calculated.   The death toll stands at 217,000. The virus is spreading all over the country, according to the latest figures. 60,000 infections were diagnosed in the US last Wednesday, the highest number since August 14. On Thursday, ten states reported a record number of new corona infections. In Wisconsin, the state's secretary of health raised the alarm about the growing number of infections. "There are now more than 1,000 patients in hospital with Covid-19. In some areas of our state, 90 percent of intensive care beds are occupied," warned Secretary of State Andrea Palm. Authorities in Wisconsin, which...

Erdogan Denies That Syrians are Fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday denied claims that Turkey had sent Syrian fighters to support its ally Azerbaijan in the battle around the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region.   "Those who call us say 'you sent the mujahideen from Syria there.' But we don't have such an agenda," Erdogan said in a speech before television. Earlier this month, French President Emmanuel Macron accused Ankara of sending Syrian "jihadists" to the region. He accused Turkey of crossing a "red line". Erdogan said on Wednesday, "They say 'you are sending mujahideen from Syria to Azerbaijan.' They (mujahideen) have work to do in their own country; they will not go there. " Armenia and Azerbaijan, two former Soviet republics, have been in conflict for decades over Nagorno-Karabakh, an ethnic Armeni...

EU Ministers Agree on European Coronavirus Colour Map

There will be one colour-coded card in the EU that shows the danger of the coronavirus for every European region.   The ECDC, the European counterpart of the RIVM, will update the map every week, the EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg have agreed. Member States report to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) every week how many new infections have been detected, how many corona tests have been conducted and how many of them turned out to be positive. ECDC has set standards for subsequently colouring regions green, orange or red. In this way, people who travel there know how much danger they are. But whether travellers have to undergo a test or quarantine, for example, remains up to the Member States themselves. They disagree. The differences between a cou...

EU Foreign Ministers have appointed Mairead McGuinness as a member of the European Commission.   The 61-year-old Irishman gets the portfolio of financial services, financial stability and the capital markets union. Her term of office ends on October 31, 2024. Last week, the European Parliament already gave its confidence by an overwhelming majority of votes to McGuinness, a member of the EU Parliament since 2004 and the leader of the Christian Democratic group. Since 2017 she has been First Vice-President of Parliament. In August, she was nominated by the Irish government to succeed European Commissioner Phil Hogan (Trade). Hogan had fallen out of favour after violating corona rules in his own country and then resigned to the EU executive. Commission President Ursula von der Leye...

Two men suspected of plotting the kidnapping of the Michigan governor are not released without payment of $ 10 million.   The judge set bail for the arraignment of 42-year-old Pete Musico and 26-year-old Joseph Morrison. Both come from the village of Munith about 25 miles southeast of Michigan's capital, Lansing. They are members of a gang called the Wolverine Watchers, named after a powerful mammal for its small size that is called wolverine. The Wolverine Watchers also reportedly planned to storm government buildings in Lansing. The Federal Criminal Investigation Department (FBI) and Michigan Police have targeted a total of 13 suspects in this case. It is still unclear how many are stuck. Kamala Harris: Corona Approach is the Biggest Failure in US History

Democratic vice-presidential candidate Kamala Harris has argued in the debate with Mike Pence that the US government's approach to the coronavirus is "the greatest failure" in US presidential history.   Harris said the vice president and president were aware of the severity of the pandemic. "They knew it was deadly, that it was viral and had an effect on young people. They knew what was happening and didn't tell you anything. They knew it and covered it up. And despite all that, they still don't have a plan." Pence responded that Trump has been working on fighting the outbreak from "day one". Before more than five cases were known in the United States, all of them returning from China, President Trump did something unprecedented: he suspended air traffic from China, the second-la...

Svetlana Tikhanovskaya Calls for Continued Pressure on Lukashenko’s Regime

Tichanovskaya has raised in a press conference in Berlin that the pressure on Lukashenko's regime must be exerted both inside and outside Belarus. In addition to the demonstrations of hundreds of thousands of Belarusians, she calls on all leaders to make their voices heard. "Our country needs different kinds of assistance, but we especially need mediation to initiate dialogue with our authorities and negotiations, so I am sure that Ms Angela Merkel will be very helpful in this situation," said Tikhanovskaya. Last week, European heads of state or gov...
