Corona Infections in Germany Rose Faster

The number of new corona infections detected in Germany was higher on Wednesday than the day before. Germany's Robert Koch Institute reported a further 7,556 corona cases, up from 3,856 on Tuesday.   Also, 560 corona patients died, according to official figures. The number of diagnosed corona cases in Germany is rising much less quickly than at the end of last year. Then the institute, the German RIVM, sometimes reported tens of thousands of new infections per day. Although some corona measures are now being relaxed again, there is also great concern about new virus variants. They are seen as more contagious. The German authorities decided on Tuesday to extend the entry ban from countries with many infections with corona variants. The measure, which was due to expire this week, n...

Williams in Straight Sets Along With Halep in Melbourne

Tennis star Serena Williams has convincingly reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open in Melbourne.   The 39-year-old American settled in two sets with the Romanian Simona Halep, the number 2 on the placement list, 10 years younger. The seven-time champion triumphed with two 6-3. Williams plays in the semi-final against Japanese Naomi Osaka, who simply eliminated Hsieh Su-Wei from Taiwan: 6-2 6-2. Williams hopes to finally match the Australian Margaret Court, good for 24 grand slam titles, in Melbourne. Four years ago, the American veteran in Australia won a grand slam for the last time. Since then she has lost no fewer than four finals.

British Health Minister Happy With the Speed of Vaccinations

British health minister Matt Hancock is pleased with the pace of vaccinations in the country and notes that the first phase has been successfully completed.   Everyone over the age of 70 has been offered a vaccination, and 90 percent has responded positively to the offer. The country is now moving to the second phase of the vaccination program for the 65-70 age group. Most of the other target groups of phase one have also been vaccinated. They are social workers, employees in health facilities, and other National Health Service (NHS). Hancock called it "a milestone on the road to freedom for all of us". Prime Minister Boris Johnson spoke over the weekend of 15 million vaccinations delivered faster than expected while the number of new infection cases is falling significantly. Hanc...

Windows 10 Can Crash Due to WiFi Connection

Microsoft is sending out a great update to fix a problem in Windows 10. In some cases, connecting to a WPA3 network may cause the system to crash.   Update KB5001028 addresses a bug that recently crept into Windows 10 (from version 1909). This ensures that the operating system gets a blue crash screen (BSOD) when connecting to a WPA3 WiFi network. It concerns error 0x7E in nwifi.sys. So the problem is not common, but it needs to be addressed. Microsoft warns that it can happen more often after you first disconnect from a network, or when your device wakes up from sleep or hibernation. The problem does not occur with WPA2, which most WiFi networks still use today. WPA3 is more secure, but it is still relatively young and therefore not yet supported. According to Microsoft, the bug...

WHO: Europe Vulnerable Despite A Decrease in Corona Cases

The number of corona cases is declining in Europe, but the continent remains vulnerable. This is what the chief of the Europe section of the World Health Organization, Hans Kluge, said on Thursday.   He warned against "a false sense of security because few people have been vaccinated". That makes a large majority of European countries vulnerable, he says. In the European Union, for example, less than 3 percent has been vaccinated. According to Kluge, the virus's spread must be further reduced; otherwise, the effect of the vaccinations could disappear. The number of vaccinations in the greater region is 41 million, and the number of infections detected since the pandemic outbreak a year ago is 36 million. And with the many tests, one million new infections are added every week. T...

Hackers Make Blockfolio Hate-Spitting App

While the bitcoin price is already reaching new heights, the popular crypto app Blockfolio has been hacked. Users were shown downright racist and pornographic messages.   Anyone who owns bitcoins or other crypto coins is also familiar with Blockfolio: one of the most used apps to check your digital wallet's status. The app has been systematically expanded in recent months with new functionality, including Signal: a communication platform through which the team behind a crypto coin can share messages in the app. And things went wrong this morning. Hackers managed to break into Signal and send messages to Blockfolio users. Especially hateful messages. Like the false message that blacks would no longer be able to access Blockfolio. Links to child pornography were also included in the ...

US Rejoins UN Human Rights Council

The United States will intersection the United Nations Human Rights Council as an observer after more than two years of absence.   The American diplomat Mark Cassayre said this on Monday in Geneva, where the body meets with 47 member states. Former President Donald Trump announced the US withdrawal from the organization in June 2018 due to perceived bias against Israel and lack of reform. Cassayre pointed out the board's flaws, but said that "we know this body has the latent to be an imperative forum for those fighting tyranny and injustice everywhere the world." Trump, with his America First agenda, has caused the US to withdraw from multiple international organizations. His successor Joe Biden has already undone some of those steps. He does believe in international cooperation...

WHO: Years of Research into the Origin of the Coronavirus

Years of research are needed to determine the origin of the coronavirus, according to a member of the World Health Organization (WHO) team, trying to discover the source of the Covid-19 pandemic in the Chinese city of Wuhan.   Team member Dominic Dwyer, an Australian microbiologist and infectious disease expert, said he was surprised by the difficulties in tracing the global virus outbreak's origins. The experts are trying to understand the early days of the coronavirus outbreak, which was first identified in Wuhan. The virus is known to have "exploded" from a market in Wuhan, but the key to the answer is what happened around that time, and before, Dwyer said. The origin of the coronavirus has also turned into a political joust after allegations that China was not transparent at t...

Another Major Increase in the Number of New Corona Infections in Germany

Once again, there has been a significant increase in the number of newly diagnosed corona infections in Germany.   The Robert Koch Institute, the German counterpart of the RIVM, reported no fewer than 14,211 new cases over the past 24 hours on Thursday morning. On Wednesday there were 9705, about a third less. After a dip last weekend, the number of new infections rose steadily in Germany in recent days. In total, the coronavirus has so far been diagnosed in 2,252,001 people in the Federal Republic. In the past 24 hours, another 786 Covid patients died in Germany. The lung virus has already claimed at least 59,742 lives in total.

Aung San Suu Kyi Charged and in Custody

Myanmar government leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who was deposed by the military, has appeared in criminal court and charged with violating a law governing the export and import of products.   She risks three years in prison. Suu Kyi and deposed president Win Myint have been remanded in custody for at least 15 days, independent internet media reported. The former president would be accused of flouting corona measures and breaking the law on natural disasters. The charges against Suu Kyi, according to arraignment circles, stem from a search of her in the capital, Naypyitaw, where "illegally imported electronic equipment" has been found. The army seized power on Monday after elections were held in which Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy was the big winner. The party on which the mi...
