In Germany, slightly fewer new infections with the coronavirus have been detected in the past 24 hours than on the day before.
The Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the German counterpart of the RIVM, reported 10,580 new cases on Friday.
On Thursday, the RKI reported almost 12,000 infections. The day before, it concerned more than 900 new cases. The coronavirus has been diagnosed in 2,482,522 residents of Germany since the start of the pandemic.
Another 264 people died in Germany in the past 24 hours from the consequences of a corona infection. Covid-19 has thus claimed at least 71,504 lives in Germany.
Chancellor Angela Merkel announced that the lockdown would remain in effect for a large part of this month on Wednesday evening. Merkel did, however, announce some easing that has been agreed with state governments.
These relaxations should be made possible by the extra speed with the vaccination and a free rapid test per week for all Germans.
