Photography is an art. It is executed differently by different artists- artists being photographers. Different photographers adopt different photography styles since each style demands a different approach. The photographer has to make use of particular tools for a specific type of photography.

What is Normal Photography
Normal photography is the kind of photography that is not specialised. Normal photography has a relatively broader scope, unlike other forms of photography that focus on a particular style. Many different photography types come under the domain of normal photography.

Some of these are photography styles, such as landscape, Artistic, fashion, wild-life, commercial photography. All of these require an entirely different approach to capture them. Landscape photography, for example, focuses on the scenery and things that make up the scenery, whereas the artistic style of photography focuses on bringing out the details of the view.

Wild-life photography is very different in the respect that it focuses on subjects that are unpredictable and thus make it challenging to capture what the photographer has in mind. The lighting in all of these subcategories of normal photography varies according to the requirement of the photography style. Different conditions demand different lighting techniques. Some types of different lightings include natural, studio, outdoor, speed lightings.

What is Portrait Photography
Portrait photography, however, is very different from the former type of photography. Portrait photography is a specialised form of photography, in which the prime focus is on the subject. In this type of photography, the subject’s face is in focus and attention is paid to detail. The lighting technique varies drastically aswell.

The different types of lighting techniques used are Butterfly lighting, key lighting and fill-in light. This helps in capturing the personality of the person by emphasising on their expressions. An individual’s emotions give a lot away. It tends to give away the character of the subject. This is arguably one of the most potent types of photography.

Portrait photography can be done for various purposes. These are usually done for special occasions such as graduations, weddings and school events. It is because they are commissioned for special occasions that the clients expect these to be nothing short of perfect. With the correct use of the right lens, photography technique, and lighting a photographer can achieve the ideal portraits that will decorate the walls of their clients for years to come.
